This is the secret sauce behind the dominance of American culture in the world

⬇️ Let’s get it.
🇺🇸 The secret to the dominance of American culture
I thought of making this post after talking with a friend from Karachi, Pakistan. She was explaining to me at dinner how, even in Pakistan (a country with dozens of languages and ethnic divisions, like India), her kids and their friends want to move to America when they’re older, learn about America, and talk in English because of cool American TV and music.
Enjoy -
American culture is so dominant that our worst, fattest, and most cringe D-list celebrities from 1993 are treated as gods in other countries

The headlines: The “American empire” is on the decline!
The reality: There’s a whooooole bunch of reasons why I personally think this is *cue Joe Biden voice 🕶️ * malarkey — re: how we dominate the world economy, how easy it is to start a biz here no matter who you are or where you’re from compared to other countries, how so many foreigners want to move here, etc.
See this former Portuguese diplomat try and argue how we’re witnessing the fall of American cultural dominance here.
Heads-up, he gets absolutely bodied by a good ole Twitter community note.
The TLDR:
This image below shows then Russian president Boris Yeltsin in 1989 seeing an American grocery store in Texas for the first time.
Need I say more?
Come on yall.
What to expect next?
🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 America, baby.
But actually tho, despite our issues (housing affordability, fentanyl, political polarization, etc.), when you ask people around the world how they feel about America, people just love us — which increased after Biden’s election.
And to me, cultural power means a few things — people’s behavior is affected by the desire to be associated with, move to, or be inspired by a thing - in this case, America.
America’s secret sauce behind its huge “soft power” is a result of a cocktail of things - media (Hollywood, music), tech that everyone uses (Facebook/Meta, Discord, YouTube), the best universities, innovative healthcare, super high standard of living comparatively, etc.
Maybe that’s why so many people want to be like Americans.
Thanks for taking the Pack,
Zach
