(Daily short form) Our race against time - how we'll beat climate change and build the future
Welcome to Z-Pack:.one topic, 2 minutes - easy to consume and fast-acting ⚡️
If this is your first Z-Pack, welcome - I'm Zach.
I’m chronically online, finding out how the world works.
⬇️ Let’s get it.
🔋 How to reach utopia
The headlines: 🚨 climate change will destroy the world, and we have to live in worse conditions in order to save the planet!!
The reality: chill tf out - there’s hope. We’re making huge progress on climate emissions, especially now that clean energy, like solar, is way cheaper than dirty energy. While it’s not guaranteed we’ll beat climate change yet, we’re managing.
In fact, we keep seeing this trend shown in the tweet above - across developed nations, as GDP per capita (wealth) grows, emissions decline.
Tbh, the main thing that we don’t see much in headlines but is probably the biggest factor that’ll affect climate change is what the Chinese government decides to do.
Why? Because they already more than double the U.S.’s total emissions. This is a big problem. Although they’re building tons of solar energy, they’re also building a ton of coal plants - more than anywhere else in the world.
But you should still feel overall optimistic - the clean energy revolution is real and happening as we speak, and we’re throwing the kitchen sink at it, as we should -
batteries are getting better at storing more energy
nuclear is finally getting the love it deserves (slowly but surely)
all sorts of companies are working on innovative ways of capturing carbon out of the atmosphere and testing out certain climate-control technologies like blocking the sunlight
The TLDR: we need to recognize the massive progress we’re making on climate change and keep grinding 😤
