🔥 Hot Take Friday
Ahhhh, 🌹 ~ love ~ 🌹
Buying your partner flowers, going on a 🔥 date, building that new Lego set - the good stuff.
You do these things for many reasons - they’re fun, refreshing, and you want to keep your partner satisfied, right?
Doing stuff like chores for your partner, for example, could be considered an act of service, which is considered to be a type of “love language,” a concept popularized by Dr. Gary Chapman in his best-selling book The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts.
This guy popularized the idea that finding your partner’s “love language” (acts of service, words of affirmation, etc.) is the secret sauce to making your relationship long-lasting.
Well… here’s what current research says about that 👇
More evidence that from learning styles to love languages to Meyers-Briggs to horoscopes, you can't look at a complex phenomena (relationships, education, personalities) and easily categorize people into a set of universal & distinct groups with non-overlapping characteristics.

The headlines: here’s a bunch of random ideas and theories that can help you in your relationships, and we’ll make sure you think are legit, even though they’re actually just theories 🤡
The reality: once again, we keep mistaking theory as reality — it’s actually more complex than that! There’s no one solution, theory or prescription to guarantee your relationship with your partner will last forever, but, if you want to make it work, there are some legitimate studies that point to helpful practices.
Not sure about y’all, but when I first read the book, I was like, “is it just me, or do all these things sound pretty nice?” - looks like it wasn’t just me!
Also, watch out for the grifters and charlatans in the water 🦈 - like the off-brand Andrew Tate guys, such as Fresh and Fit, who push INSANE beliefs, like how men should always try and “alpha” around, how women are only shallow and materialistic, etc.

As a tangential point, this tweet really nails why so many men are trash at both romantic relationships and friendships — they suck at understanding, labelling, and communicating their emotions, which is why I recommend this book
