Here’s this take from Persian scholar Sharghzadeh on whether or not immigrant food in America is better than in the country of origin 👀
Disclaimer: he means to say “than the country of origin” not “and”.
I've had my favorite developing-world cuisines in America and the country of origin. The diaspora version is usually better.
The reason is simple: poverty leads to lower standards, worse food quality, worse refrigeration, less cleanliness, etc.

You truly don’t appreciate the access you have to incredible food from all around the world in a major city in the U.S., until you travel to another country and realize that, depending on the country, you only have local cuisine as the option - no Thai restaurant or Italian spot, for example, that’s down the block, saucing it up.
Not sure if I completely agree with Sharghzadeh, but I gotta respect the Hot Take when I see it 🫡
