😶🌫️ The great China steal
The China Cycle:
- A Western company puts factories in China
- Chinese companies appropriate its technology
- The Western company is squeezed out of the Chinese market
- The Chinese companies go overseas and outcompete the Western company

The headlines: **many publications are reporting on a lot of things with China, stuff like
(1) China escalating threats on invading Taiwan
(2) their efforts to cover up COVID
(3) their persecution of Uyghurs, a Muslim minority group
(4) their ongoing economic crisis
(5) like the tweet above, China stealing technology from multinational companies that decide to build factories in the country for decades now, like Tesla, in recent news.
The reality: I’m no professional on China, but it does seem like that news publications are sleeping on two things:
The increasing risk that China will invade Taiwan, and that the U.S. will not be prepared for it
How dozens of companies have fallen due to the China Cycle described above
What to expect next? Hopefully —
Companies keep withdrawing their investments and factories out of China and move to neighboring democratic countries like Vietnam and India, since China will just keep this up - there’s no multi-country effort to coordinate and keep this from happening.
The TLDR: we’re all still sleeping on China as a threat to both the world economy and geopolitical stability - because when a country is run by a dictator, like Xi Jinping, the dictator will dictator and do what they want for whatever reason because they can, regardless of how bad it gets (see Putin and the invasion of Ukraine).
Hopefully recent moves in the U.S. congress to force a sale of TikTok to a non-Chinese based company will wake everyone up a bit more to this problem.
